Four angling clubs in Cheshire will be hosting the first ever 'Junior Spring League' this year. The league will consist of a series of four matches in April and May, each held at a different venue. Two canals and two lakes are being used, to give the young anglers a taste of different types of angling, and to make for an interesting contest.
The host clubs are: Bay Malton Angling Club, Northwich Anglers, Prince Albert Angling Society and Warrington Anglers Association.
All matches take place on Sundays (22 April, 29 April, 13 May, 20 May).

Cheshire starlets shine at Border
The cream of Cheshire's young angling talent attended the first Inter-regional event held by the ADB on Saturday 25th September.
The event, hosted by the ADB Midlands region at Border Fishery near Crewe, was part of the Talent Pathway process, aiming to identify and develop elite anglers in preparation for international competitions.
Amongst the North West squad was a contigent of Cheshire-based anglers, including Adam Harman, Tom Bunby, Lindon Brooks, Ryan Parr, Kaythan Shillito, Reiss Bratt, Ryan Brown and Shaun Gaskell. The "A" team were triumphant on the day, beating teams from the North East and Midlands on weight. Team Captain Ryan Parr also recorded the highest weight in the "A" team section.
Congratulations must go to another North West angler, Daniel Goulding from Liverpool, who skillfully landed a 12lb carp to record the highest weight on the day, earning himself a trophy in the process.

Cheshire team victorious in Inter-County event
Cheshire have won the inaugral North West Inter-County junior fishing event.
A team of 7 young starlets represented the county against teams from Greater Manchester and Merseyside. The match was fished on Saturday 20th August on the Bridgewater Canal at Preston Brook, Warrington.
The Cheshire team comprised:
Kaythan Shillito (Northwich Anglers)
Sean Gaskell (Warrington Anglers)
Tom Bunby (Northwich Anglers)
Ryan Parr (Bay Malton AC)
Lindon Brooks (Bay Malton AC)
Adam Harman (Warrington Anglers)
Reiss Bratt (Winsford & District)
The Cheshire team took a convincing victory, with Kaythan, Sean, Tom, Lindon and Reiss all putting together section-winning nets of small fish. The team amassed an impressive 18 out of a possible 21 points.
To add further gloss to the performance, team captain Kaythan Shillito also won the individual trophy, with a match-winning catch of 2090g of roach and skimmers taken on the long pole.
Congratulations to the team, and good luck to those who are selected to represent the North West of England in the forthcoming inter-regional events.

Cheshire Team Champs 2011 Result
The Cheshire Junior Team Champs is the main event in the CADG calendar and was fished on the 10th August. Following the success of last year's match, the event was held at Bay Malton AC's Meridian Canal (part of the Border Fishery complex) near Crewe. Braving strong winds and heavy rain during the contest, the young anglers persevered through the 4-hour match to do their best for their respective teams. Every angler caught fish, although the weights were down from the practice session two week's previous.
7 teams from around the county took part in this 2nd annual event. Congratulations go to Penketh & Old Hall AS on winning the junior team trophy. The successful POHAS team were: Ethan Neary (captain), Joe Maddock, Thomas Dolson, Matthew Sutch, Liam Gaskell and Callum Brown.
Penketh fought off strong competition from last year's champions, Northwich Anglers Association, to take the title. The winning teams and individuals received trophies, and every competitor taking part was awarded a tackle voucher, courtesey of Stapeley Angling Centre.
Junior Champion
The individual winner on the day was Adam Harman, a member of the Warrington Anglers team. Adam weighed in 21lbs 8oz of carp from E-section, some 6lbs clear of his nearest rival Lewis Goodwin (Congleton AS) with 15lbs. The third-placed angler was Northwich's Kaythan Shillito, who amassed 12lbs 5ozs, the best weight from C-section.
Intermediates match
Fished on 3-Islands Pool, the Intermediate pairs event was won by the Warrington Anglers pairing of Nathan Rowles and Jack Bellis.
Cheshire Squad
Talent ID spotters from the Angling Development Board assessed all of the young anglers on the day. A squad of 8 will go ahead to represent Cheshire in the North West County Champs on the 20th August. We wish those young anglers the best of luck in representing the county.
